Willing Heart Longing for Home

Philippians 3:20-21 (MSG) “But there’s far more to life for us. We’re citizens of high heaven! We’re waiting the arrival of the Savior, the Master, Jesus Christ, who will transform our earthy bodies into glorious bodies like his own. He’ll make us beautiful and whole with the same powerful skill by which he is putting everything as it should be, under and around him.”

THIS WORLD IS NOT MY HOME (Albert E. Brumley) Acclaim Music

“This world is not my home I’m just a passing through. My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue. The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door and I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.

Chorus – Oh Lord you know I have no friend like you. If heaven’s not my home then Lord what will I do? The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door. And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.”

This song so completely says what’s on my heart. I am so ready and watching daily for Jesus Christ return that I can hardly stand it. My spirit is bouncing on its toes in anticipation of the day.

Do you realize that there is not one single major or minor prophecy left in the Bible to be fulfilled before Jesus comes back for His Church (that’s all of us who believe in Jesus birth, death and resurrection, asked Him to forgive our sins and come into our lives)? He could return before you finish reading this devotional!

Are you ready? Have you asked Him to come into your life? Have you turned from the things that you know God does not want in your life? Are you growing in your walk with God? Can you see a difference in your life since you asked Jesus into your life?  If you answered “No” to any of these questions then you need to take steps to correct them.

The first thing is to admit that you have sinned against God. Now don’t get your kickers in a knot! We have all been disobedient or rebellious to those in authority over us. We’ve all lied, exaggerated, told a “white lie”, whatever we want to call it and for whatever reason we said it, if it wasn’t the whole truth it was a lie. God calls this sin and we need to agree with Him that it is sin. That’s what confessing means, to agree with God. Repentance is turning 180 degrees and going in the opposite direction away from sin. If you lied, don’t lie anymore. If you steal, stop stealing and pay back what you’ve stolen. If you’re cheating on your spouse, knock it off!

God gave us the Ten Commandments, not the ten suggestions. You can find them here – Exodus 20:3-17 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=exodus%2020&version=ESV.

The next step is to make amends for the hurt and pain you have caused others if it is in your power to do so. I know this is hard but remember that Jesus went to the cross for you and took your punishment in your place and forgave you. Now you must go to those you’ve wronged and ask their forgiveness too. The Bible says we must make peace with all men. This includes accepting blame for one’s own faults Ps 51:3-4 See also Jonah 1:12; Luke 15:18.

This will accomplish several things according to the Dictionary of Bible Themes on forgiveness. “The freeing of a person from guilt and its consequences, including punishment; usually as an act of favor, compassion or love, with the aim of restoring a broken personal relationship. Forgiveness can involve both the remission of punishment and the cancellation of debts.”

Finally, you must forgive those who have hurt you. Matthew 6:14-15 (ESV) “14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” These two things can take some time to accomplish. It took me six months to get to the point that I could forgive my step-mother for the things she did to me. Keep asking God to help you to be willing to forgive and He  will keep working in your heart and it will happen.

You are a work in progress, now. You are no longer lost in sin but are becoming a new creation in Christ and this work will be completed when He calls us Home. This is the day that all of Gods children are looking forward to! Is your spirit bouncing on its toes, too? I hope so!

Side note – I was prompted to write this after watching “Heaven One Minute After You Die” produced by Day of Discovery. You can find some great videos at www.dod.org on many different subjects. Most are about twenty-five minutes long and well worth marking the website a favorite.
